Though it's clear that there were widespread reports of the use of rape as a weapon of war during the attacks on october 7th, it's not clear whether this actually happened (as an act of war). The report of the SRSG-SVC mission by the UN notes that 'found reasonable grounds to believe that rape and gang rape occurred'. "The UN report is based on reviewing evidence and conducting interviews in Israel over two weeks — which, as it notes, is not nearly sufficient time to conduct a full investigation into sexual violence on October 7, much less whether those crimes were premeditated, systemic, or directed by leadership."
Based on the investigation we find it difficult to include this sentence, especially since in these last weeks disturbing news has surfaced about the use of rape by Israelian officials on Palestinians prisoners.
We don't want to have a 'balanced resolution' by adding that these horrifying facts have also occurred on the other side. Therefore we propose to delete the phrase here.
