The two-state solution as it currently exists stems from UN Resolution 181 and the Oslo Accords.[1] As such, it is a product of a colonial history. The result is an apartheid regime, in which Palestinians are systematically oppressed and are now being eradicated. As of May 2023, there are 5.9 million Palestinians registered as refugees. As long as the occupation of Palestinian territory by Israel continues, Palestinians cannot return to their own land. The current two-state solution is a construct that is mainly popular among Western states. The current situation shows that a two-state solution with a separate Israeli state leads to the occupation of Palestinian territory. [2][3]
