As mentioned in last year’s resolution Israel has violated Article 3 of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD). This article states that: “States Parties particularly condemn racial segregation and apartheid and undertake to prevent, prohibit and eradicate all practices of this nature in territories under their jurisdiction” (p. 64)[1] The International Court of Justice observed in its 2024 Advisory Opinion “that Israel’s legislation and measures impose and serve to maintain a near-complete separation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem between the settler and Palestinian communities” (p. 65)[1].
In Amnesty’s report on Israel’s apartheid against Palestinians (2022)[2] they conclude that Israel has established and maintained a system of apartheid (p. 266). In order to combat a system of apartheid, we need to recognise it as such.
